United Arab Emirates
Since gaining independence in 1971, the United Arab Emirates, a federation of 7 Emirates (often known by the acronym UAE) has emerged as an economic power within the Arab world, fuelled by its large oil reserves.
Over one third of the population of the UAE live in Dubai, its capital city, also named Dubai, is the largest city within the Emirates. It is home to the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa. The E11 road (the Dubai section is named Sheikh Zayed Road) links Dubai to the UAE’s capital city, Abu Dhabi.
