San Francisco
Originally established in 1776 by Spanish Colonists, San Francisco expanded rapidly following the Californian Gold Rush of 1849. Devastated by the earthquake of 1906, the city was rebuilt and today is a major tourist destination and a powerhouse of banking and commerce on the west coast of America. Also known for its links with technology and Silicon Valley, it’s moderate climate, rolling landscapes, the Summer of Love, music and so much more. Architecturally diverse, San Francisco’s most famous landmark is the Golden Gate Bridge, an iconic structure often used to symbolise not just the city, but California and the United States.
