London Bridge
Sometimes confused with its more substantial neighbour Tower Bridge, the current incarnation of London Bridge spans the River Thames between Southwark and the City of London. A bridge of some description has existed at this location for almost 2000 years. Its role was pivotal in the forming of Londinium as the administrative capital of Roman Britain.
The current bridge was opened in 1973, designed by architect Lord Holford and constructed by John Mowlem & Co (now Carillion plc). Today London Bridge is a very busy thoroughfare for hordes of commuters making their way to work in London’s financial district.
